Celebrating the show that influenced so greatly the trajectory of my musical life, this work commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the airing of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.
Shirley Walker's contributions to the show determined back then and continues to shape and influence the love I have for music, and especially music for orchestra, and this piece is dedicated to her memory and work.
"The Heist" is structured as a "lost episode" or "lost short animation". You'll hear Shirley's Batman theme throughout, as well as other nods to her textures, orchestrations, and dark deco noir stylistic writing throughout.
Special thanks to Talia Marshall for helping give some life to the low string sections on her cello. And to Austin O'Rourke for letting me borrow his ratchet/rattle.
I performed clarinet, bass clarinet (clarinet pitched down an octave), french horn(s), trumpet(s), trombone(s), and tuba (trombone pitched an octave down.
